Case Study KWC – Michelle

How Kirkwood Consulting helped Michelle land her dream job and achieve the right work-life balance

BACKGROUND

When Michelle first approached Kirkwood Consulting seven years ago she was a stay-at-home mum. Back then, having decided to stay home was an unquestionable priority and a choice: the joy of being able to witness every milestone moment her children achieved and take an active role in their early steps of life was an unmissable experience she did not want to comprimise. But when her children grew bigger, Michelle felt the need to invest in her own potential and start looking for a part-time job.

THE CHALLENGE

Michelle was lacking motivation and confidence due to feeling rejected and down-hearted upon applying for several jobs online without getting any interviews. In order to gain competitiveness in the labour market, Michelle was contacted by the local Jobcentre to attend a course structured to provide jobseeker mums with dedicated tools for updating their CV and improving their interview skills and money management.

TRANSFORMATION

The new capabilities and skills gained helped Michelle land the perfect job with the Institute of Demolition, where she has been working as a Secretary’s Assistant for the last 7 years.

Michelle is now responsible for managing the office and the liaison with members of the Institute, from students to fellows, preparing and dealing with their applications and daily communication, organising and registering meetings and biannual seminars the Institute holds in London and Leeds, where she handles merchandise and packs for the delegates. She is also a strong support and vital help for the annual AGM in London.

WHAT KIRKWOOD CONSULTING DID

Through effective and continuous support, Michelle was able to recognise her own abilities and skills, which helped her to rebuild her self-esteem in order to build the right profile to lead her towards the career she wanted. As a matter of fact, tutoring throughout the entire course played a key role in improving and rebuilding her confidence: walking Michelle through all available opportunities, determined a more positive approach and deeper understanding of her capabilities towards the job search process.

All this without sacrificing time spent with her family. Thanks to the Pinnacle People Launch Pad course she attended run by Kirkwood Consulting, she was able to reset her standards and priorities to create a path where time with her children was not overwhelmed by her work load, achieving a work-life balance that now allows her to succeed the way she desired.

“I enjoy every aspect of my job, which I don’t think a lot of people can say!”

Michelle, Secretary's Assistant

“The course meant I had to work at it, but my tutor was brilliant. I got all the support I needed, and nothing was too much trouble.”

Michelle, Secretary's Assistant

Leadership & Management

Developing leaders who move people forward. Strong leadership isn’t built through abstract frameworks, it grows when managers understand themselves, understand the people they lead and feel ready to handle real workplace pressures. Our programmes are created with that in mind. They are practical, human and shaped around the demands of your organisation, not a generic curriculum.

Recruitment

Recruitment shaped around capability, contribution and long-term fit. At Kirkwood Consulting, recruitment is approached with care and depth. We support employers who want hiring that is ethical, consistent and built around genuine potential. Our role is to help you bring in people who strengthen culture, raise performance and stay long enough to make an impact.

Business Transformation & Consultancy

Practical transformation for organisations navigating real change. We support employers who need to reshape their workforce, strengthen leadership, improve culture, redesign operations or prepare for large-scale growth. Our role is to make the work manageable and to bring structure to complex challenges so that people feel supported, not overwhelmed.

Skills & Employment

Supporting professionals back into meaningful work. Skills shortages, shifting labour markets and evolving employer expectations mean that many capable people struggle to re-enter the workforce – not because they lack talent, but because they lack tailored support. Our Skills & Employment programmes are designed to bridge that gap.

International Training & Consultancy

Global insight with culturally aware delivery. Kirkwood Consulting has spent years supporting organisations across the UAE, Canada, Africa, Europe and Asia. Our international work is built on a simple goal: training and consultancy must be shaped around the cultural, economic and organisational realities of each region. That is what makes our global partnerships so successful.
