Industry Experts Have Entered The Job Market Due To AI & Machine Learning

No virtual interview experience - no problem

There’s no question about it, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning tech will soon become part of daily life, and as a result, an influx of industry experts are out of a job.  In fact, Google recently sacked over 12,000 employees, Yahoo cull adds to over 30,000 job losses in sector this year and Microsoft is looking to shed 10,000 jobs. And these ex-employees haven’t had an interview in 5, 10, or even 15 years – meaning they can feel out of their depth when trying to tackle new interviewing techniques such as logical thinking/out-of-the-box questions and virtual interviews.

It isn’t just the lack of experience with the latest interview techniques that these professionals must overcome – salary expectation is also a factor that many experienced workers face upon returning to the job market.  Stress and anxiety can often cause potential candidates to become less confident and more intimidated by the whole interview process. But for those looking to snap up top talent in 2023, what is the best strategy to secure experienced candidates? Let’s get into it

Why Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning Are Triggered Job Loss

Artificial intelligence and machine learning technology have been integrated into various industries, with some sectors being more affected than others. In the automotive industry, for example, robots are used to produce cars faster and with fewer errors than their human counterparts. Similarly, AI has taken over customer service roles in many big companies, providing customers with an immediate response instead of having to wait on hold or dealing with a human operator and within the recruitment process, we have seen an increase in the use of AI in appointing candidates to roles.

The introduction of artificial intelligence technologies into these industries has led to job loss and burnout among employees – something that was not widely predicted. But this gives employers in other sectors a valuable opportunity to hire highly skilled, driven, and motivated professionals who may not have considered a new career move.

Industry Experts Unfamiliar With Virtual Interviews

Highly skilled professionals who have not been out of work for several years are now faced with a new challenge: virtual interviews. In the past, all job interviews would take place in person, but due to the pandemic, many companies are now conducting virtual interviews instead. And this trend doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon!

Virtual interviews do require a different approach than traditional face-to-face meetings – candidates must be prepared to answer questions quickly and concisely using their cameras and microphones rather than relying on body language or physical cues. So with this in mind, if you’re interviewing experienced candidates with years spent working with one company, it may be worth going back to basics and offering traditional face to face interviews.

Q4 2022 Hiring Trends Highlight Persistent Talent Challenges and Employee Motivation

The hiring trends index for Q4 2022 shows that despite the ongoing economic challenges, the UK’s unemployment rate has remained relatively stable. However, the pressure to find the right talent continues to impact businesses, with only 30% increasing recruitment in Q4 2022, compared to 35% in Q3. In 2023, employers anticipate that the impact of inflation on business costs and meeting salary expectations will be their key challenges.

On the job seeker side, the trend of the “Great Resignation” seems to be coming to an end, with only 31% of employees planning to look for a new job in 2023. Despite a slight decrease in the average mean time to hire in Q4, the pressure remains to fill vacancies, with higher salaries remaining the top driver for job searches in the coming year. Does this sound all too familiar?

How To Overcome The Hurdles Of AI & Virtual Interviews

For experienced professionals and graduates, the best way to overcome the challenges of AI and virtual interviews is to stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends.

Additionally, employers looking to attract industry experts should give candidates the option to have a video, phone, or in-person interview in order to give all a fair chance. There’s nothing more frustrating than hosting a virtual interview and dealing with a ‘no-show’ due to technical issues or a candidate anxious at the idea of interviewing online.
